Positive Affirmations, Why They Work

By Carrie Spry

Your subconscious thoughts determine almost everything in your mind. In order to build a positive mind, you need positive statements. You can create positive subconscious thoughts by consistently repeating positive statements. These statements are positive affirmations.

These positive thoughts, once instated, will reinforce the new positive inner-image you have of yourself. You will be replacing old negative thinking with new positive thinking and doing it at a subconscious level. This will give you access to all the positive energy you have within yourself. This will help you create a new positive reality.

When using positive affirmations, it's important to let yourself really feel them. You need to fully experience the emotions of each one. You must believe that each affirmation is true. This will help your positive changes happen more quickly.

Positive Affirmations should be used for a minimum of 30 days. It can take about 3 weeks for your mental image to change and some people can be up to 4 weeks. A good rule of thumb is 30 days or 1 month. Writing down your positive affirmations is a good way to get to know them quickly so that you can use them anywhere and everywhere.

These simple statements can be used anywhere in your home, car, work, etc. You can use them in the morning which getting ready, brushing your teeth or hair, showering, before you go to sleep or before a meal. Get creative, but remember, the affirmations should be at the same time everyday. This will help create a trigger for you. For example, every time you brush your teeth, after the first 21 days, it will just come automatically to you.

Another thing that will help you change your thought patterns more quickly is to continually remove all negative thoughts you experience daily. If you allow negative thought to dominate, your positive affirmations will not make any progress. As soon as you notice a negative thought, eject it.

Most of us have been programmed from birth to think negatively. We didn't do it on purpose, we simply did it unconsciously. Once you begin to be conscious of your thoughts and thought patterns, you can begin to change them. In the beginning, you may not notice all of your negative thoughts or you may notice them several hours after they have happened. Simply acknowledge that you had the thought and eject it. Don't beat yourself up, that encourages negative thinking. Just move on. After a few days, you will become much faster and noticing your thoughts. And before you realize you can catch these negative thoughts before they start.
