Discovering The Essence Of Comfort Food

Have you ever gone through a time when there are certain types of foods that you want to eat? Even if you believe you've tasted what could be considered as the most delicious and perhaps expensive meals, you still find yourself wanting what we call comfort food.

This could be because comfort foods are not your typical dishes. For one, they are usually served by informal diners, especially those that serve regular meals or the foods that you seem to eat almost every day (think of mashed potatoes or even fried chicken).

Comfort foods are also home-cooked meals. These are the dishes that are normally prepared by our parents while we were growing up. In relation to that, for some reason, meals such as these remind you so much of your childhood when you feel happier and more secure about your life, knowing that with such meals, your family was able to show you their love and care.

What Are These Comfort Foods?

Comfort foods can vary from person to person. It depends on his or her experiences during childhood or while he or she is growing up. However, there are certain types of foods that are considered as home-cooked meals by a lot of people. What's more, they are recommended for their nutritive value:

Chicken Soup

What can you remember with chicken soup? There are two possible things. First, you thought about those days when you were caught in the rain. To keep you warm, your mom would probably prepare you a hot bowl of chicken soup. Moreover, this soup has a way of making you all sweaty, which helps your body become cooler and reduce fever.

With chicken soup, you can add as many types of vegetables or herbs as you want, which allow you to also take vitamins and minerals. Chicken, on the other hand, is highly rich in protein that helps build strong bones and muscles as well as repair damaged cells.

Spaghetti

Spaghettis are one of the favorite dishes prepared during birthday parties, occasions where families and friends were there to make you feel really happy. Of course, you could think about those different gifts that you definitely enjoyed or appreciated so much.

The good news is that spaghettis can actually be enriched with the necessary nutrients to keep you healthy too. Tomatoes, for example, are rich in lycopene, which aids in fighting free radicals that may cause cancer. The pasta can be your great source of carbohydrates. You can also include herbs into your spaghetti.

Tuna Casserole

If you're fond of tuna casserole, then there's a good chance that you were born during the 1960s to the 1970s, a time for the baby boomer generation. You can hardly classify this as gourmet; but it's easy to prepare, flexible, and, most of all, healthy.

The main ingredient, tuna, contains essential omega-3 fatty acids that help improve the functions of the brain. With constant consumption, you can help increase your level of good cholesterol in your blood to prevent cardiovascular diseases.
